Our History

In 1770, the John Jenkins House was located on a cotton plantation in Ahoskie, North Carolina. The house remained in the Jenkins family possesion until 1965 when Stuart Curtis of Ahoskie purchased the farm and the home. It was then that house was relocated and remodeled with an atmosphere full of the flavor of Eastern North Carolina and named the Jenkins House Restaurant. The home was once again resold in 1996 and renamed Catherine's 1770 Restaurant.

The hand-hewn beams and flooring, the fireplaces and wainscotting all remain today in our Front Room as they did two hundred years ago. The stained glass window in the ceiling of the Front Room came from the old Scotland Neck High School. Over fifty doors grace the house, some coming from the old Halifax farm homes, some from the old Rich Square School Building, circa 1922.

Our beautifully decorated Florida Room is the most recent addition to the building and serves as a banquet or party room.

At Catherine's we are surrounded by the rich history native to our area, not only with the items and decor of our business but also the actual restaurant itself! Stop by anytime to see for yourself and enjoy some of our delicious food in a unique atmosphere!
